Triple H: Twelth Knight and 12 times the KING!

In a history-making Fatal Four Way Elimination battle at Backlash, The Game defeated a trio of past and present WWE Champions – JBL, John Cena and, ultimately, Randy Orton – to claim his 12th World Title. (Watch: Exclusive video of The Game's win)

Ending the “Age of Orton’s” near seven-month reign, Triple H not only secured his spot at the top of sports-entertainment, The King of Kings reseated himself upon the illustrious WWE Championship throne – notwithstanding any argument from William Regal or any other Raw competitor. And, he did it by outlasting three veritably iconic WWE Superstars.

Boasting a most reputable sports-entertainment résumé, self-proclaimed “wrestling god” JBL was proven false idol by Cena, as the Chain Gang Commander eliminated Layfield with an STFU – the man Cena defeated for his very first WWE Title reign in 2005. With JBL out of the picture, the four-cornered encounter instantly became a WrestleMania XXIV rematch with an elimination clause twist.

At The Granddaddy of Them All one month earlier, The Game came within inches of securing the gold until an opportunistic Legend Killer landed a well-placed punt to Triple H’s skull, enabling Orton to pin a post-Pedigreed Cena. On this night, though destiny would end up displaced from the Legend Killer’s camp, the defending champion’s lunging punt again led to Cena’s downfall.

Before Cena could even release the tight grip of his submission hold on the tapping JBL, Orton connected his boot to the head of his challenger, allowing the titleholder to quickly get the pin on his denim short clad opponent.

Irony heavy on this night, Backlash then became a flashback to No Mercy 2007, the site of Orton’s infamous WWE Title victory against The Game. Then, it was the Legend Killer who took advantage of a battle-weary Triple H on a rollercoaster evening to become a two-time WWE Champion – thus, climaxing a unique war of master vs. apprentice from their days in Evolution.

More than a half-year later, The Cerebral Assassin returned the favor to the Legend Killer, enduring an RKO to keep The King of Kings’ legacy from falling among the list of legendary figures disgraced by Orton. Instead, Triple H added his former ally to a much different list that includes names like Mankind, The Rock, Shawn Michaels and Goldberg – Superstars conquered by The Game en route to the gold on 11 previous occasions.

The 12-time World Champion’s road back to the WWE Title concluded in glory at Backlash, making this evening at 1st Mariner Arena the first night in which many covetous eyes shift in the direction of The Game. But, without question, the King of Kings anxiously waits from atop his throne, ready (perhaps more than ever before) to defend a career’s worth of sacrifice and maintain the ultimate symbol of his commitment and excellence: The WWE Championship.

The Eve of Unfinished Business by Zhou Yu

Las Vegas, Nevada -- Today, at the Mandalay Bay Resort Casino, the site for tomorrow’s blockbuster fight, the official weigh-in for all the boxers involved in the card was held free for the public to witness.

The headliners for the said fight card, WBC Super featherweight champion, Juan Manuel Marquez and challenger, Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao easily made weight.

Marquez tipped the scales at 130 pounds while Pacquiao was a sizzling 129 pounder.

The other fighters on the card made weight as well except for Diosdado Gabi. Gabi, in spite of being stripped bare, was still 119.5 lbs. He was given an hour to come back and try again. Rumors had it that Gabi was 6 pounds over the limit as late as yesterday. Why? Your answer is as good as mine!
Personally, I strongly feel there was no reason why Gabi could not make weight unless someone is negligent in keeping track of it!

At his last fight (with Barrera) Pacquiao allegedly had “weight problems” and had trouble making the limit. That issue, plus the fact that he did not train as much and as well as he did for this fight with Marquez resulted in a lackluster fight. The fact that Barrera refused to mix it up with Pacquiao did not help either.

After the weigh-in, Pacquiao immediately went back to his suite to slowly re-hydrate and eat. A sumptuous lunch prepared by his staff was waiting at the dinner table.

The rest of the day, Pacquiao is expected to just relax and meet with friends and supporters who endlessly flock to his suite. At 9:00 PM it will be lights out and the suite will be cleared with only essential personnel allowed to stay.

Cena's back... And heading to 'Mania!!!

John Cena is back, and after a quick stop on Broadway for Royal Rumble, “The Champ’s” return tour is headed to the grandest stage in sports-entertainment.

As far as anyone knew, Cena was expected to be out of action for a while – perhaps as long as a year – after tearing his pectoral muscle less than four months ago. Yet after shocking our fans worldwide by entering the Royal Rumble Match at No. 30, Cena whipped the capacity Madison Square Garden crowd into a frenzy when he tossed Triple H over the top rope to win the 2008 Royal Rumble Match. With the victory, Cena earns a World Championship opportunity against the titleholder of his choice at WrestleMania XXIV on Sunday, March 30, in Orlando, Fla.

Of course, with the Royal Rumble being perhaps the most unique match in WWE, there were plenty of surprises and highlights before Cena showed up as the final entrant. For instance, the final two survivors from last year’s Rumble – Undertaker and Shawn Michaels – drew Nos. 1 and 2, making them the first Superstar tandem to finish one Rumble and begin the next. Unlike last year, however, it was HBK who would eliminate The Phenom later on.

The smallest Royal Rumble competitor, Hornswoggle, drew No. 9 … and promptly hid under the ring, only popping out to eliminate The Miz minutes later. When he popped out a second time, however, Mark Henry dragged him into the ring. Finlay came out to protect the leprechaun, but when the Irishman assaulted everyone in the ring with his shillelagh, he was disqualified from the Rumble – unfortunately taking Hornswoggle with him as well.

Two WWE Hall of Famers also shocked the capacity crowd, as Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka and “Rowdy” Roddy Piper entered at Nos. 18 and 19, respectively, to a pair of massive ovations; unfortunately, after a quick flurry that saw them rekindle their 25-year-old rivalry, both legends were dumped by entrant No. 20, Kane.

Finally, after 29 Superstars had entered, three-time former WWE Champion Cena made his way in at No. 30 to a raucous reaction from the MSG crowd. As Cena’s entrance theme played, The Game stared in disbelief at what he saw. Pointing to his repaired right shoulder, Cena shouted “You and me, it’s go time!” to The Game, and the fight was on.

In the end, it came down to three of the biggest and most beloved Superstars in WWE history – Batista, Triple H and Cena. After The Game finally got the best of his former Evolution mate by dumping The Animal, it came down to the two men who met each other for the WWE Title just two WrestleManias ago.

20,798 rabid fans were torn over who to cheer for, and they got their money’s worth from the final two. Just when it looked like The Cerebral Assassin would take Cena down with a Pedigree in the final moments, “The Champ” hoisted The Game on his shoulders and tossed him to the floor, finally winning the Royal Rumble Match and earning the right to face the champion of his choice on March 30.

Cena will be looking to capture some gold in the Sunshine State at WrestleMania XXIV … but which champion will he choose to face? Will he go after the WWE Championship – currently held by Randy Orton – and look to regain the title he never lost in the ring from a man who never beat him for it? Or will Cena look to conquer a different mountain and challenge an old foe, World Heavyweight Champion Edge, or a new kingpin, ECW Champion Chavo Guerrero, for a title he has never worn?

Regardless of whom he chooses to face at WrestleMania XXIV, one fact is certain: “The Champ” is back, he’s better than ever and he’s hungry for gold.

American Floyd Mayweather Jr has defeated Great Britain's Ricky Hatton in the 10th round of their World Boxing Council welterweight title fight in Las Vegas this afternoon.

Mayweather knocked Hatton down with a damaging left to the chin as the British fighter was swinging a punch of his own, then dazed Hatton again with a hammering left.

The end came seconds later at 1:45 of the 10th round when referee Joe Cortez stopped the contest, Hatton flat on his back by the ropes as reigning champion Mayweather jumped for joy to celebrate victory.

"Pretty Boy Floyd" Mayweather improved to 39-0 with his 25th victory inside the distance while "Hitman" Hatton suffered his first loss after 43 triumphs.

In the sixth round, Cortez deducted a point from Hatton for hitting Mayweather behind the head, a punch that left the American doubled over the middle rope from the waist up.

An already bloodied Hatton responded by turning his rear to Cortez and Mayweather and bending over. When the fighting resumed, Hatton battling back, forcing an up-close and against the ropes fight.

Mayweather slammed a devastating right punch that snapped back Hatton's head one minute into the eighth round and landed a flurry late in the ninth.
